The purpose of this HIA was to inform policy decisions related to the placement and maintenance of community gardens in Knox County Tennessee. The HIA was used to educate policy makers about why certain communities might be better suited for a gardens. Although zoning can have a major effect on the placement of community gardens, not all zoning codes will support the placement of a garden, especially within city limits.
Outcome
Upon presentation of the HIA report, the zoning was changed to support the placement of gardens in designated areas of Knox County.
